From Anansi to Brer Rabbit, to Papa Bois and Old Hag – stories inspired by Africa resonate across its diaspora. Whether they were tales of shift-shaping vampire like creatures, of mystical figures that protect the environment or the clever Anansi who always gets his way; stories helped preserve the culture and traditions of enslaved Africans. Stories protected ancient African notions of family and values such as respect for the earth. Wherever the stories landed, they were adapted to suit the environment, transforming memory into modern ritual. The children of Africa welcome you, as through the stories, our story will be told.
