04 Jan Private Villa For Rent: Villa Peninsula, Tobago
A private villa for rent could be just what the doctor ordered I thought.
So I told my wife let’s make a quick run away and do a relaxing Christmas vacay to Tobago. We both had been working fairly hard and did not want to get caught up with Omicron and his sister variants.
We preferred to shy away from hotel accommodation but instead enjoy a seaside villa that would be super chill. One that offered top shelf amenities while at the same time being affordable, private, high on safety and had a little extra wow factor. There were several properties that were promising but I hit the Lotto jackpot when I found Villa Peninsula,
Villa Peninsula was listed on Hove Estates a local property rental firm. You know when something just feels right the minute you see it. Well, the pictures I saw of Villa Peninsula did just that. I felt immediately transfixed as if I were already there.
I made every effort to capture the soul of this villa with the photos, but to be honest, there is no better way to experience it than to do it yourself. It begins with the picturesque drive into the Plantations Estate where the villa is situated. The radiant sun on your face, the smell of salt and the lullaby created by the crashing wave are all to die for.
The Location
.
The luxury Villa Peninsula is situated within the eco-gorgeous 175-acre Tobago Plantation Estate. Only a short 10 minute or 13-minute drive from A.N.R. Robinson International airport or Scarborough Sea Port respectively, Peninsula along with other villas, look onto the majesty of the Atlantic Ocean.
The drive-in takes you past the friendly security checkpoint, on through the tropical mangrove, PGA-designed 18-hole golf course, Magdelena hotel with restaurants and boutique shops, many a private villa for rent, before arriving at Villa Peninsula.
18-Hole Golf Course Hotel Magdelena (formerly operated by Hilton)
Although the community is gated the villa itself is ungated.
As you drive through the entryway you can park under the covered carport amidst a tropical floral oasis.

.
When you enter the villa you immediately get put into full relaxation mode with a 50-foot high ceiling. The villa opens onto an elevated lounge area with a large living room, kitchen and 4 bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and for younger ones a ladder to birds perch loft. The external back patio allows you to spread out and lounge next to the pool with a jacuzzi as you take in the breeze and surf of the ocean.
When compared to formerly Hilton operated, Hotel Magdelena’s rack rate of US$240, a rate of US$460 a night at Villa Peninsula is a steal, particularly if you are a large family or a group of close friends.
Peninsula is perfect for waking up to a glorious sunrise or seeing an equally stunning sunset.
An exceptional feeling of tranquillity and peace permeates the entire property. It is a unique blend of a mixture of plantation elegance and Caribbean sophistication without being stuffy.
The furnishings are well thought out with ample sofas, dining area, full kitchen and attractive art adorning the walls of each room.
The house is surrounded by a lush well-manicured garden.
The Villa Details
What I loved most about this private villa for rent was the 4000 square feet expanse of space without losing its cozy feel. There were so many nooks that you could go curl up in without feeling as though you were being crowded or closed in.
The Master Bedroom
.
This villa comes with not one but two master bedrooms. Each one has a king-sized bed with a flat-screen tv, plenty of closet space and an ensuite bathroom. Both open up onto an adjoining patio which allows for an awe-inspiring view of the Atlantic Ocean.
If you like the nomadic untethered lifestyle which for me means mixing a little work with pleasure then you should see whether you have what it takes to be a successful blogger..
The Junior Bedrooms
.
Adjoining each of the master bedrooms is a junior bedroom. These rooms are furnished with two twin beds each. They too have their own bathroom with all of them finished in Italian marble and tile.
The junior bedrooms are also perfect for the young kids who like to be left alone wiht their gadgets in their own space.
Similarly it’s a good fit for the single friends that don’t mind sleeping together in the same room.
The Main Living Room and TV Lounge Area
.
We invited some friends over one night. Me and the guys drank some beastly cold Carib (local beer) while playing some mean poker on the six-seater circular dining room table.
The girls got jibber jabbing on the red sofa and arm chairs before moving over to some reality show in the equally comfy tv space. And while we were all in eyeshot, the two groups were sufficiently far away to not interfere with each other’s vibe.
Kitchen
.
The kitchen had all stainless steel major appliances, plates, glasses and cutlery. The micorwave and toaster oven came in very handy to heat up food bought on the road or to create those quick sandwiches for the kids.
There was also a dishwasher if you just don’t have the energy to manually wash dishes.
Just off of the kichen there is a laundry area with a washing machine and dryer unit which worked but we understood would be replaced soon.
You might miss it but there is a chain which hangs from the ceiling at the far end of the kitchen, adjacent to the small circular table. When you pull on this stairs to the loft will drop down. Mind your step it is a little steep but well worth the ‘on high’ feeling that the kids enjoyed.
The Pool, Jacuzzi and Patio
.
Once the sun is out the approximate 10-meter length pool remains heated well into the afternoon allowing for a most delightful swim.
The pool is shallowest at 3 feet at its perimeter getting deepest at over 6 feet at its center. As it gets later into the evening the mosquito pilots come out which make it uncomfortable to take a night swim or sit outside unless you have doused yourself in mosquito repellent.
Not in for a swim, sit and sip on your favourite cocktail as you rock back on one of the ample chairs or chaise lounges.
Feeling hungry, fire up the grill or take a dip in the jacuzzi
If you prefer to stay out of the larger pool you have an option. That is for even more pampering six of you could don the shades, rub on the suntan lotion and easily bask in the jacuzzi
Many of the villas have breakwaters that break the ferocity of the Atlantic waves. Despite this the area is too stony and the water in front of Villa Peninsula admittedly is too rough to swim. But you certainly can dip your feet in and feel the wind blow on your face.
Surrounding Property
.
There are however very many beaches within a 10 minute drive. I preferred to stay away from the most popular beaches at Store Bay and Pigeon Point beach. Instead, I chose Stonehaven Bay for the calm rolling waters, open beach and little quaint local bar called Waves
The Villa Amenities
We have already touched on several amenities that are included in this private villa for rent.
One of the benefits that is not easily seen is that the villa is managed by Helen and her Hoev Real Estate team. What this meant was that we had someone on call, almost like a concierge, that we could rely on if any problem arose.
For instance, when we arrived there was no water in the villa. It was Christmas so if we were on our own this might have been a real nightmare. But not so. A quick call to Helen and she was able to sort it out with their on-call technician, with little inconvenience to me.
Further, Helen was an excellent resource for knowing the better restaurants, getting to the area parlours (mini-marts) and pharmacies. She and her team were always super pleasant and professional, which allowed me an even better opportunity to relax.
For a listing of the amenities in Villa Peninsula:
- Seafront
- 500 sq foot Private pool
- 8 foot wide Jacuzzi
- Beach towels
- Toiletries
- The entire villa is air-conditioned
- Ceiling fans in all rooms
- Barbecue grill
- Free Wi-Fi
- 3 Flat Screen TV’s
- Pool lounge chair and sofa with tables
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Maid service upon request
- Free parking
- Toaster oven, coffeemaker, blender and microwave
- Washer and dryer
- 3000 gallons water tank
Final Thoughts
Vista Peninsula is ideal for small families, couples, or a group of close friends.
Apart from the in-villa features and amenities, Villa Peninsula is strategically situated. As you leave the Plantation Estate you can go along down the Claude Noel Highway to head over to main city Scarborough, Mt. Irvine bay area, or Bon Accord, where there are a number of popular beaches, nightspots and bars.
I should also mention that you have access to a number of the on-site amenities offered to the resort visitors. These include the Magdelena Hotel’s fine dining restaurants, boutique shops, tennis courts, riding paths and jogging trails.
I highly recommend Villa Peninsula and look forward to returning there to stay again someday. , next time I visit Tobago.
*I should add that my review is based on my personal experience staying at Villa Peninsula. I did not receive any commission, remuneration, or discount for this article. Posted at 08:00h, 11 AprilThe Caribbean has been on my bucket list for many years, and now that travelling is opening up a bit more again, I might be able to get there. This private villa in Tobago looks amazing, and with so many amenities in the house and property, it seems that it is lacking nothing.
The price of $460 per night if very affordable, specially if you have 4 bedrooms, all en-suite and 2 master bedrooms. This means the villa can easily be shared by two families, making it even more affordable to share the cost. Great to know that Helen is on call to sort any queries as well.
Thank you for sharing your experience at villa Peninsula.

Posted at 11:33h, 11 AprilThanks, Line for dropping in on my corner. The only way to truly share is by living the experience yourself so I hope that through my eyes I have encouraged you to go out and get that ticket so that you can take that Tobago vacation getaway off your bucket list.

Posted at 09:21h, 11 AprilThe location is perfect for a romantic getaway or just a break from work. I used to go away with my ex-husband and it did us a lot of good to relax and charge up the batteries. VILLA PENINSULA, TOBAGO is a great place to say it looks expensive and luxurious. It is great that it is only a short drive from the Airport so not a lot of travelling is needed once you arrive at your destination. Looks like there is a place you can eat as well not far away. If you want to play Golf it is available as well.
A great holiday all around.

Posted at 11:15h, 11 AprilHey Elke yes the price tag is a little up there if it’s just one couple but when you figure that you and friends could stay there up to 8 comfortably the price is really affordable. Happy that you dropped in.

Posted at 10:13h, 11 AprilDefinitely a great idea to rent something like this rather than go to crowded hotels for your annual getaway. Especially as COVID doesn’t seem to want to do a disappearing trick anytime soon.
The kids are going to love the idea of a loft, and a real bonus that each bedroom has its own en suite. Also you can go with friends and not have to fight who gets the master bedroom as there are two. Is it possible to sleep in the loft, or is it only a room with a view?

Posted at 11:16h, 11 AprilSpot on Michel. You have zoomed in on a couple of the key features Villa Peninsula offers – affordability in a group and flexibility in sleeping options.

Posted at 10:34h, 11 AprilWow, this place looks amazing. How is Tobago compared to other Caribbean locations in terms of accessibility and safety? Are there any near by spots for surfing or water sports? I I have been to Jamaica and the Bahamas and this seems to be way more chill. Is Tobago a family destination (little kids) or more for an adult get a way? Thanks.
Melting Pot
Posted at 11:26h, 11 AprilHey Dave Tobago is at the other end of the Caribbean chain. More south while Jamaica and the Bahamas are up north. Yes as soon as you come off the plane you literally feel like all your worries have left you….super chill! Certainly a prime destination for the family and kids for the beach and just beautiful island life. They would enjoy the glass bottom boats that will take you to snorkel amidst the reefs and fish
Jamaica admittedly has more hotel stock and all-inclusive options which I have found very good on the pocket, particularly with the kids that want a slurpy every minute. If you want more waterpark-type rides then Atlantis in the Bahamas is your best bet. For adults, you can’t beat the booze cruises with their Bahama Mamas.
Parties wise nothing beats Carnival in Trinidad (the sister isle to Tobago) but you have close seconds with the fetes and other festivals. Check out Top 14 Caribbean Events You Can’t Afford To Miss (meltingpottravel.com)

In addition to being a great place for both singles and couples, I love that you yourself have been there and share your real feelings with us. What other places like this can you recommend? And what is the price to stay at Villa Peninsula for 10 days?
Melting Pot
Posted at 11:31h, 11 AprilHey Rufat depending upon the season Villa Peninsula will run you between $400 to $460/ night. A little pricey if you are by yourself but a steal of a deal if you make up a party of 6 making it about $76/ night. There are a range of alternative options on island as well that will serve all pockets. Come on down we would be glad to have you.
